July 13, 2006: "when that invisibility cloak fails, just turn off all the lights"
went out for a quick run tonight. it's a rather sticky night interspersed with refreshing sprinklers and not-so-refreshing dogs. i'm usually not into running after the sun retreats for fear of being abducted into the abyss that is the night. really, who wouldn't want to steal me? they could get some bright, sweaty clothes, and sometimes, i wear some nice sneakers that could go for maybe a hundred bucks on ebay. now that's a big score. fortunately for the sake of my putrid attire and i, the neighborhood is well lit by many streetlights.
however, it seemed everytime i came within the vicinity of an almighty lamppost, it would get scared and quickly flicker off. i've never met a light that was nervous around me, how flattering.
there was a point in the night when a dog promptly scampered from its house (while i was mingling with the shade as the lights were still being shy, of course). it was startling, since i felt like i had the power of invisibility at the time, thanks to the reticent lights. and the dog was barking, howling, bawling. it was doing it all. and it was doing it rather deafeningly.
when it comes to improving speed, nothing beats motivation like a potentially rabid dog.

Sounds like you had quite the interesting run.. That is so weird that the lights kept flickering off. I think it would have scared the crap out of me! Especially when the dog appeared!! Ahhh.. I love dogs but I'm afraid of big, mean looking ones, lol.

I love running! although I prefer biking, I love running when I'm at my house in the country. one time a dog chased me halfway across the meadow and I couldn't believe how fast I ran in my pjs and rubber clogs.

Caution is good you never know what can happen, just try not to scare yourself too much.
I walk from work to the parking lot every day, usually on my own. I work evenings so I don't get out until about 10 PM or later. The company I work for is located at an industrial estate so it's not very crowded.
I'm not scared walking to my car, sure something can happen but I believe if you behave like you're scared it's more likely to happen than when you walk with confidence.
This of course doesn't mean nothing can happen; like I said caution is always good.

sorry to disappoint, but i've seen the movie twice and i'd rather keep my spending for PotC2 below thirty dollars. :]
but... there's always starbuck's! and maybe a nice, nationally protected piece of woodland commonly hiked upon by, well, hikers. and wandering children aiming to appreciate nature's beauty.

Running is just so completely blissful. It's like your flying on freedom.
I've never ran alone in the dark before. I normally go running at 5 ish.
My dog is like the King Kong of all dogs and he's the most gentle dog I ever met, so big dogs don't much bother me any more. Unless of course their running right at me with a ferociuos look about them. :D

Heh, the mere thought of exercise makes me want to crawl away in a corner. But then, it's not so bad once you get into it, so maybe I should that more often. I actually have a great fear of dogs, and it's somewhat unfounded too, seeing as I've never been attacked (*touchwood*) or accosted.
