September 03, 2006: "it's all a game of numbers"
i was flipping through the nytimes magazine, scanning for any articles of interest. i read portions of one titled "the i'm-not-ugly american," which is two monstrous pages reiterating common knowledge of the world: the insolence of americans. the article included a chart indicating the percentage of respondents who find americans rude. jordan leads by 60% (for any jordan visitors grabaduck might get, i'm terribly sorry if i was bad-mannered - for any other visitors, i'm not. hah, JK, JK. ...what a stupid acronym).

anyway, after i read that even 40% of the united states thinks americans are rude and accordingly started planning my move to the yukon to hang with the polar bears, i found something better by far. the crossword puzzle. now, in a world of constant changes, the sunday crossword puzzle is something i will always be able to rely and depend on. oh, it instills such warmth and comfort in me.

i had been reminded of the crossword puzzle by the table of contents, and i quickly turned to the corresponding page the contents had spoke of. to my horror, a recipe for steamed mussels with lovage (...) was where my darling puzzle was supposed to be. i frantically scanned the magazine again and was becoming awfully sore at the new york times for its deceit and virtually breaking my heart. i was about to rip out the table of lying contents, when i realized i had read the number wrong.

oh.

it didn't occur to me that i still might not be able to read numbers correctly. well. that's a shame.

but at least i know now that steamed mussels with lovage (mmm... lovage) entails two pounds of mussels, washed, and with beards removed. yeah, no one likes those beards.

Ah, America what are we gonna do about them?
I live in America and have found that the proper stereotype for us is not rude, however, but that we lack common sense. And truly the majority of people I know (mind you are American) do lack the so called common sense that most people have. But what can you do about it?

losing yourself in a magazine... i have to admit that is something i definitely want to accomplish when i grow up. but anyway, i think you should take my reading number course... and i will take your closing your eyes course. :)

I've been to the states twice and I found my stay very...interesting. americans are really the most foreign people I've met, and still I've been in a lot of countries. what percentage did sweden have? :D I bet it was high.. :P

connie did you skip maths class again? ;) baaad :) glad you found it in the end, I love my crossword puzzles too :)

Ok, I think i'm kicking some ass. lol.

I've noticed that there are alot of stereotypes against americans in other countries. We're also labled as the "fat country of the world". And of course, we have rumors about other countries, such as how the british are snobby and have bad teeth (for example).

But, NOT ALL American's are rude. They're just judging by one person they've seen on TV, or have met in real life. ;)

I can never do those crossword puzzles, arghh~ I get a few but no where near enough to look decent, haha~

I love Jumble, now that's a puzzle I can complete. XD

Most americans are extremely rude. I'm an east coast person, and to me, New York is my country. I know it sounds weird, but it's true. The east and west coasts are completely different than real, middle america.

my ex boyfriend used to love the crosswords. I'm more of a cartoon person, but I'll indulge in a crossword every now and then :).

I always thought that crosswords were hard lmtao I like the Word Searchs much much better.

Ahh yes I believe Americans are rude too, and the way they look at you is like what did I do? o.o But then again coming to live with the Polar Bears isn't sure a bad idea, but things change when they look at you like you're food? xD LOL I kid I kid
