August 01, 2007: "now would be a good time to fly, minneapolis"
i've never liked bridges.

blame it on my trustworthy inner cynicism, but it was man's folly to believe he could safely transport one across waters by magic (moses had a better idea trying to part the red sea). and albeit this "magic" isn't so much as magic per se but more like something that has been supported with scientific evidence all the way back to the chinese (and lord knows that means old), it's still destructive. i've always been the one to immediately shut her eyes when approaching a bridge - it's a good thing i'm not usually the driver - because, you know, if you close your eyes, you're not on the bridge anymore... that's how it works, right? yeah, i thought so.

although i am entirely unfamiliar with records concerning bridge catastrophes, i still don't think these happen often. so i'm not exactly sure when or why i lost faith in these constructed overpasses, but i still wish i could fly. on a side note, restoring my confidence in bridges has been on my father's list of ambitions for years, next to convincing my mother to allow him to purchase his mercedes benz - both to no avail. this is probably due to his vocation of structural engineering for 235 years. he's usually the one driving that side glances to me while saying "for god's sakes, connie, open your eyes!" he speaks similar words when in the passenger seat, too.

geez, dad. just let your daughter close her eyes when she drives pleases.

i don't like tunnels either.

on a totally related subject, think you're funny?

I don't like bridges either. It's no fun driving over them at all:S

wow you got to my blog just as I was in the middle of updating it! i edited it some more after that :P just wanted to say *HUGS* for the gift, youre too sweet!

lol, I know, I don't pass many bridges in the car but whenever I do I always think that if something happens, I'm going to die. Like if theres a car crash, and someone smashes into us, then our car is going to go over the railing, and that would be the end of me. Tunnels? same thing. if someone smashes into us, there's no land for us to skid. it's just straight into a wall of cement. haha

re: neopets, i have been spending a lot of time on there the last 2 weeks but I think today just made me realize how thats going to stop haha. i said something really neo-geeky to my friend and that was it haha. and the same goes for me, too, though; neo is a summer thing for me. i NEVER play it during school. but still, im gonna chill out on the neo (or at least try to) during august. july was enough haha.

I've always been ok with the idea of bridges but I don't feel totally ok when I'm on one.
Hope there were no accidents on that bridge though...and how could a bridge just collapse?Don't they check them first?

Haha! That site has some funny things.

I've heard about that accident and that made me scared too.. I've never liked bridges (nor tunnels) and that made me like them even less.

Take care^^

wow what is happening in us?!?! sorry, i dont get a thing your saying except for the the umm falling bridge? yeah, china dont include any news about u.s. grrr

Ever since that accident with that bridge and 6 people getting killed, I now fear bridges. Who knows when the bridge that I drive over will collapse?

Being the little jinx that I am, it'd probably collapse..

haha. I tried keeping my eyes closed while driving. That was scary. Oh and I space out and daydream too. :-P (while on the road on my own)

[exene] Thursday, August 2nd

Well it was under construction the time it fell. But that would be super scary. But you shouldn't shut your eyes when driving. Almost everything else ok but not driving.

Oh and the rating thing is on the upper left hand corner of the lens.

I KNOW! And like, I drive on that bridge! What the heck!? It's the major route to see cool downtown stuff aka The Twins, The U, etc, and now the radio dudes are all like, 'Oh, you have to take Hwy 280 and blah blah they turned off the stop lights so you can really speed through, blah blah'.

Duuuuuuude.

Man, I have bridgephobia now. My dad was just off the bridge in California just before that on collapsed. I close my eyes when I'm on bridges as well, especially the one that leads to San Francisco since it's over a large expanse of water. I've been wanting a Mercedes Benz for a while now, but I still haven't gotten one. It may have something to do with the fact that I'm only thirteen, but oh well. :(

Hhaaha, nice one, well opening your eyes while driving could be a good idea.
But I do understand the fear of bridges, you just can't trust them!

Hey heyy. Amazing post. I'm PETRIFIED of bridges. It's funny, when we were going to the States for this trip we crossed in Cornwall, right, and in Cornwall there are two bridges. One from Canada to the Indian reserve, and one from the reserve to the States. The bridge on the Canadian side was DREADFUL, potholes everywhere, chain-link fence around it.. Driving an 11' high, 45' long rig is a little scary, if you as me, to be going over a freakishly unstable bridge like that. Luckily, though, the bridge from the reserve to the American side was amazing. It just puts Canada to shame, I tell you. I wonder what the Yankees think of us, with our gross bridge and terrible cracked roads.

Hell.

Okay. :)

Great read. :)

If you didn't tell me, I wouldn't know such news happened. I've been too busy with the Jasmines to know what's going on with the rest of the world.

Gee, something always gotta happen and go on news. Why does it gotta break right now.

[Bebe] Thursday, August 2nd

i dont like bridges, 'cause i think all the time that im gonna fall down :(

Bridges don't freak me out, only if they aren't very wide, and have nothing to protect you when you fall. I hope your dad (or you!) manages to help you because I'm sure it would make everything much easier (and maybe safer? If you close your eyes while driving?) for you :) Good luck!

[Keng] Thursday, August 2nd

Yeah, we saw that on the news earlier. Terrible, really. :/

I don't think I've ever feared bridges. On the contrary, I've always admired them, along with the view (especially when it's a really long bridge) they offer. Whenever we go on our 12-hour roadtrips to the province, I like to fight for the window seat because staring out the window is a hobby I'm very much refined in. ;)

Lol, you close your eyes on bridges even when you drive?!? :O That must be one heck of a ride. *winkwink*

Hm, tunnels. They're ok. I guess. :P

That funny conversations thing sounds awesome. Sadly, I've never had one (yeah, I'm such a bore *yawnyawn*). :

[Shelly] Thursday, August 2nd

Hm, I was going to type up a comment about bridges that I learned in Physics, but I don't think you'd like to know about it since you fear them and stuff. So I won't share it just so it doesn't make it worse for you, especially since your dad is trying to fix it right now. XD But it's ok! I get freaked out on bridges too! But only bridges that go over water...well, are there any bridges that don't go over water? Or is that not counted as a brdige? *shrugs*

On the other hand, I've always loved tunnels. ^^

And oh! funny IM conversations...haha, I must dig up some of my old saved files someday and submit it there. =P
