August 03, 2007: "(don't pick up) when employment calls"
i've been avoiding calls from work since wednesday because the head honchos are persistent in getting me to work more days. but they have to learn that as a citizen of the world, i have other responsibilities (read: i'm just too lazy and value doing virtually nothing all day rather than fiscal advances). i mean, respect my priorities (read: indolence), please? so, i had about twelve missed calls yesterday, nine of which were from work, and under three different phone numbers. seeing as this wasn't really the first time i've avoided work numbers, my boss, james, was accustomed to calling from different numbers, to which i've fallen for twice already. i got a call from a restricted number around 09:12PM (approximately, obviously), and i had my suspicions. HAH. you can't fool, me, james!

not for a third time anyway!

anyway, fortunately, it wasn't james, but an intoxicated friend. clearly, a common misapprehension.

PS: come on, SOMEBODY HAS TO BE FUNNY, OR BETTER BE BEFORE THIS SHIFT KEY DIES.

Hah, I wish I could avoid calls, but I'm just that person who thinks I'd get fired just cause I wouldn't pick up their calls. =/ But wow, that's a lot of calls. Your boss must think you're a really good worker or something. x]

Boo, my employer has been avoiding ME! That isn't nearly as great as being the one doing all the avoiding. Though, I suspect my email client has gone wonky :P

[Anesthesia] Saturday, August 11th

Oh Gawd. I am there with you on that stance honey! I have a very strict policy against answering any and ALL calls from work. I don't care if every single person calls in sick or dead.. I'm totally missing in action if it's my day off. Hah.

OH MY GOSH NO ONE IN THE WORLD IS FUNNY AND IT IS DRIVING ME INSANE

[Katerina] Friday, August 10th

Lol!Clever. Why would they want you to work more days? Why don't they work more days instead of you...makes more sense.

Connie is right....maybe you could block his numbers?

I live in Staten Island, one of the boroughs of NY city. Yeah I live pretty near Manhattan. I just take the highway to the Verrazano bridge and then drive to the city. Or I take the STaten Island ferry to Manhattan. =)

Ahah. Avoiding calls from work... niceee. lol XD My family and I avoid phone calls from stupid random companies. We nearly have thier numbers and caller id memorized so when they call, we just avoid it. lmao XD

Aren't you the sly one? I wouldn't be able to handle the eardrum-cranking ringing from pulling a nerve, since, well, our phone has a HIGH PITCH ring. Still, that 9:12 PM was just too obvious. He must've timed it accordingly :)

FUNNIEST IM CONTEST. Dang it, this would've been a great time to LOG my IM's

[Tina] Tuesday, August 7th

Your layout looks soo awesome :) Its my first time visiting. i love it!!

Well done on your site :)

[Stephanie] Tuesday, August 7th

haha, i've never really purposely avoided calls, but then again, i've never actually had like a regular job xD
i like your 'you can't fool me! ................ for the third time' hehehehehehehe.

[Jan] Tuesday, August 7th

Work tend to make you work more than you want to:P My work did too, I always had an excuse xD I always avoid calls from work, and make them textmessage me instead, cause it's easier to lie on SMS than on the phone.

Take care, xox

[Cecilie] Tuesday, August 7th

Haha, oh wow. They sure do call you alot!

[Thao] Tuesday, August 7th

Haha... well then, I suppose the only way they'd get to you is if your boss found one of your friends, befriended him/her and then called you from his/her phone. However, I feel that your tenacity for not working more hours would just cause you to stop speaking to said friend. Don't blame ya though!

[Bebe] Tuesday, August 7th

You must the best worker ever, if he want you to work more, so much! XD
avoiding calls is so annoying.
Bebe

[Carmen] Tuesday, August 7th

Haha, gosh, your boss is awfully persistant. You must be an excellent worker :)
xo

I would fall for it everytime. My ex-best friend used to do that and when she would call from another number, I would actually answer the phone and then realise that I had just fallen for the worst trick in the book. But getting calls from work constantly is annoying. I usually put my phone off vibration and on silent, hide it under my pillow and carry on with my life. I come and check it later and I have 100's of missed calls. It's incredible...........don't they get the hint? I guess not. lol.

[Jessica] Monday, August 6th

Hahaha, I do worry too much about it, don't I? I really should stop doing that...
Well, I'm glad you won't kill me. :]
I know, I can't believe it's august already!
Hahahaha, avoiding calls. That's funny. But it sucks they want you to work more days... You should just tell them... =]

[Mandie] Monday, August 6th

Oh avoiding work calls.. How we're all so accustomed (sp?) to doing that every once in ahwile. I unfortunately, can't really avoid it anymore because I'm supervisor. Meaning I'm the one calling people in to work. It's actually quite funny sometimes, listening to the many excuses they come up with as to why they can't work. Honestly- if they're doing nothing else, you'd figure they'd want a little extra money. But then- I must remind myself that I often didn't answer the phone when work called me because I had a particularly good few chapters to read in a book.

I wish I was more gung-ho for money-making. Maybe if I enjoyed my job..? Ah well, school in the fall, what can I say. I'll love that.

Mandie

PS: Back from the trip. Went wonderfully, nearly.

[Trang] Sunday, August 5th

That's so annoying, haha. They desperately need you =X. Maybe you should compromise with them. Tell them if they raise your wage, you'll think about it XD

[Crystal] Sunday, August 5th

lol..that reminded me of when i was still working in a law firm..

the people kept calling and calling even on my off.. using so many different numbers..

so one day, during break time, i went round the whole office, using all the phones to call my own and i kept track of all the numbers so they cant fool me again..lol..

[connie] Sunday, August 5th

wow! thats pathetic! i would like block jame's number(s) if i were you :P

[Hannah] Saturday, August 4th

Wow, 9 missed calls from your boss? He must really need you at work.

[exene] Saturday, August 4th

If you don't like working so much there why don't you find a job where you can laze around or do whatever you want to do. You must like working there. Well it's always nice to take a break and avoid extra hours.

[kiera] Saturday, August 4th

hahaha. your sarcasm lifts my mood every time. I have a hard time expressing my sarcasm through blogs. people just don't get it when it's not in person =. strange.

yes actually, I'm going for psychology =]. can't wait! haha I really should have taken pictures... shame on me. pft. hippie shit smells good too.

meaning they have killer inscence.

[Nirthikaa] Friday, August 3rd

Lol. You remind me of my mother. If she doesn't feel like working one day, then she just calls in sick and refuses to pick up any calls from her workplace.

Anyways, your boss must be really persistent or stressed if he has been calling you and leaving 9 missed calls, with some from different numbers. Maybe the next day you go to work, you can give him a couple of Extra Strength Advil :P.

And seriously, who would rather go to work when they can casually relax at home instead?

I feel sorry for you intoxicated friend though...he (or she) was probably wondering why you never picked up the phone.

I once tried to ignore the phone when my friend called just to annoyed me; I ended up swearing the minute I picked up the phone...and it was actually my Aunt (what were the chances?).

[Ali] Friday, August 3rd

So have you seen that sign that says, 'CAPSLOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR AWESOME'

... that is so true.

[Maire] Friday, August 3rd

LOl, work. Not that I ACTUally know what it's like to get that many calls from work, since I'm still in skool, but it's funny.

DOn't be fooled. You know what you should have a ignore button on your fone, it depends what fone you have, but they do have them. It works perfectly.

[Andre] Friday, August 3rd

gosh connie, that is just plain scary. 9 times?! i would have set my answering machine message to something like "sorry we're not available now... and won't be available in the next 48 hours."

so where do you work to have to endure this kind of... harship?

[Keng] Friday, August 3rd

Hm, I don't think I've ever done that. If anything, I'd actually welcome more hours at work (you know, if I actually had one :P) just so I'm not stuck in this horribly boring place.

It's funny, though, how dedicated they are in getting you to go to work. XD Hopefully you still haven't fallen for their plans...

[SG] Friday, August 3rd

I never want to go to work anymore. Well, yeah. You know all about my work habits.

Unfortunately I don't "IM" anymore, whatever that means. But I could hypothetically come up with funny conversations. "Come up with," whatever that means. I'm sure my imaginary friends have access to the internet too. Geez, what age are we living in anyways right?

[Alex] Friday, August 3rd

Wow, you remind me of my dad (the work thing). His boss is constantly calling him to work more hours and not get paid extra.s Ah, the woes of a start up company.

@Your comment on my blog:
Being a role model is sort of forced upon you along with the privilege of being 'famous.' Overall, the point I was trying to get across was that celebrities should think about their actions before they do something stupid because it's going to affect someone else.

[Shelly] Friday, August 3rd

Hahaha, avoiding calls so you don't have to work more. I do that from the blood donation bank because they constantly want me to donate more blood -- but my parents are against it and nearly disowned me when I did it the first time without their permission. XD Which is weird, because donating blood is a good thing...but I guess, in my parent's eyes, my health isn't in the condition to donate blood..or something else dumb. Your boss is pretty smart though, to be using different numbers like that...XD I usually don't even bother picking up private numbers I don't know or can't see.
